Today’s audiences have grown-up with Outside Broadcasts [Mobile Production], and have come to expect live pictures and sound from anywhere and everywhere.
In order to help achieve this camera support equipment must satisfy challenging criteria:
- Quick and simple to rig and dismantle
- Robust enough to survive any environment
- Simple for the varied crews and freelancers to operate under the pressure of live broadcast
- Easy to carry
- Compact enough to pack away into the trucks
- Tough enough to survive constant rigging, de-rigging and transport
Vinten equipment has been designed with this in mind and proven over years.
George Hoover, Chief Technology Officer of NEP describes his first hand experience of Vinten pan and tilt heads:
“We have long relied on Vinten for our camera support. We have been Vinten customers for 25-30 years, we started off with the Vision Mark 3s. Now we use Vectors and Vision 100 and Vision 11s. From day one using this kit has always been easy, straight out of the box, it’s then ready to take the camera, simple and quick to balance and you’re good to go…. Even if new crew are on board the equipment is intuitive and they can use it right away with minimal training.
We will continue to buy these products because they work in the worst possible environment for any piece of technology anyone has ever made. This equipment gets seriously abused, it is left out in all elements, the rain, the cold, put away wet, and this stuff keeps on working.”
Pedestals and tripods are built to match the heads; click here to see the key operational features of Vinten’s Heavy Duty Tripods.
Finally, when working on Outside Broadcasts it’s vital not to overlook the accessories. If speed is important Vinten have developed a range of Quickfix adaptors that significantly reduce the time taken for set-up and breakdown. If the locations are varied it may be helpful to buy a range of fixings, such as a scaffold clamp. And for all operations that require frequent transport it is advisable to pack your equipment securely into hard transit cases.
